This past year, a new kind of student-centered learning took center stage in the Sioux City Community School District: Project and Standard Based Education. As with many new ideas in the public schools, the critics came out in droves to try to shut down the show. Administration, teachers, human resources, the local Area Education Agency, and even the universities came together to make a playbill that would silence the critics. It worked! Together they built two Canvas courses that gave the teachers what they wanted: renewal and graduate credit. It was music to the teachers’ ears! Now teachers are conducting their own shows using the professional development learned and students are applauding.
