Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has been able to set up longitudinal grades in Canvas? We have a couple of colleges requesting this and I'm not seeing a way to do it. Does anyone have ideas as to how this can work?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Thanks for clarifying, @fkolarz ! Term by term grades with GPAs are typically handled by a different type of application known as student information systems (SISs). There are several ways Canvas can pass course grades to SISs. Some institutions require teachers to enter official grades directly into the SIS. At my institution, teachers must enter grades into the SIS themselves, and Canvas grades are not considered official.
The closest thing a student could see in Canvas is the page of all current course grades. I believe concluded courses would be excluded.
How do I view grades for all courses in the Card View Dashboard?
@fkolarz Could I ask you to explain what you mean by "longitudinal grades"? (It is a term I do not know, and I don't want to offer advice based on a bad guess.)
Hi @stimme,
Longitudinal grades give the students the opportunity to track their academic performance across multiple years. I am attaching an example of what I'm looking for.

Hi @stimme ,
Thank you for your suggestion. We did try integrating our SIS, Banner, a few years ago and it didn't work well. I did look at what you suggested and I believe that will work for us. I appreciate your time.
We spent a little time looking for ways to do longitudinal studies on quiz questions, and there was no easy way to do it as the id number changed for questions for each quiz. it could be done with specific question titles, and exports and data cleaning, but it was a lot of work that no one does anymore.
Outcomes might fit your end goals, if you want to take a look at them.
