concluding past courses

New to Canvas Admin and I think I messed something up.  All of my teachers and students have open access to classes from several years past.  I thought I had archived the classes, but I'm not sure if that worked.  How do I clean up the list of classes that students and teachers are seeing.  Is there a batch process?  Thank you!

This may help with the issue of student access:

In the settings for the root account you the following check boxes: 

Restrict students from accessing courses after end date

Lock this setting for sub-accounts and courses

As regards teacher access, teachers may need access to past course. You can however control access using term dates in the root account. See https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Admin-Guide/tkb-p/admin#Terms

Additionally teachers won't be able to change grades beyond the 'close dates' for grading periods if you have grading windows. 

Since we've been using Canvas for many years an issue we faced was the number of courses appearing in menus. We partially ameliorated this by keeping current and recent courses in an account called Academics (with subaccounts for depts), while moving older courses to special archive accounts invisible to all but admins.

Thanks for the suggestions.  Our term end dates were already set, but that didn't work in this instance.  I would like to know more about how you moved older courses to an archive account and made them invisible.

Hi,

Teachers had admin status in our root account as 'faculty', and courses existed in our root account.

I created a subaccount called 'Academics' and gave teachers 'faculty' admin status as faculty in that account.

I then removed the 'faculty' admins from the root account (but not any other admin roles...)

I put all current courses into the Academics account (in dept sub accounts), and courses which I want to archive into an Archive account in which faculty have no admin status at all.

This means that when faculty search for a course form 2010 say they cannot access it. In fact although the terms from 2010 show up in the menu for teachers if they filter to that term in a search no courses appear (unless they are an admin as well as a teacher...)
