Why are there some N/A's in the gradebook for students and not others?

We have a series of modules that students complete in the course.  Each module ends with a quiz.  There are some students who have completed a few but not all modules and in the gradebook the non-completed modules are blank.  And then there are some students who have N/A's in the gradebook.  Why would some have N/A and others be blank?

Here is an example of the things going on in the Gradebook.  Not sure why some have N/A across all quizzes, and some only have N/A showing for a few of them.  Not sure how N/A is even there because each quiz is based out of points.

Without being able to take a look at your specific course and assignments, I would not be able to 100% say why this is happening. That screenshot you attached, is it from the gradebook export? 

Some things you could check are: 

1. Are all students are assigned to the module assignment. I believe that if the gradebook export lists N/A, it might indicate that the assignment is not assigned to all the students in the course. 
2. Are the students listed as N/A excused from the assignment? 
3. Do all students have a graded submission to the assignments where you are seeing this on? Or are there only certain students that have a submission for it?

Hi Colton:

Yes, the screenshot is the Excel version of the gradebook data.  As far as I know the quizzes should be assigned to everyone, and no one should be excused from the assignment.  Clearly from the screenshot, not all students have a graded submission because there are so many blanks which I would assume means they haven't done it.  I'm just curious why there are N/As and also blanks in the dataset.  Essentially, what causes an N/A to show up in the gradebook?

Thanks for getting back to us. The gradebook export csv should list points they've earned in that column but there could be a number of reasons to generate an NA. If students were excused, or  part of  a section that had ended, students may have been "concluded" or deleted from the course altogether and now are past enrollments still in the course, etc. If you've double checked that the students with NAs are indeed still currently enrolled, assigned to the section/assignment, had a submission for the assignment and a grade in your real gradebook in Canvas, then you should contact canvas support directly to take a further look into the issue as there may be an alternative reason that they can assist in pinpointing.
