What are those colored flags in the gradebook and how are they to be used?

When I go into the gradebook, some grades for some students have little colored flags next to them. Do I need to pay attention to those?

Hi @DebraMcIntire

Happy Friday and I'm happy to help answer this question!

In the Instructor's guide 'How do I use the icons and colors in the Gradebook?', information on colors and specifically the flags I believe you're referring to are discussed.

Colors in the gradebook represent represent the status of an assignment.

Those statuses are:

  • Blue [1]: Late submission
  • Red [2]: Missing submission
  • Green [3]: Resubmitted assignment or quiz
  • Orange [4]: Dropped grade
  • Yellow [5]: Excused assignment

Colored flags next to a student's name is your gradebook is likely a 'Turnitin Icon'. More information on these icons is below.

If you create a Turnitin assignment, the Gradebook displays Turnitin score icons in the Gradebook. To view details of the score, click the icon and view more details in SpeedGrader:

  • Gray icon [1]: Similarity Report has not been generated yet
  • Color icon [2]: Similarity Report has returned a score; the color is based on the Similarity Report percentage score
  • A Clock icon indicates the Similarity Report is still being generated
  • An Exclamation icon indicates there was an error when generating the Similarity Report

I hope this helps and please reply back if our teams can help answer additional questions!
