'Submit failed, please try again' error when submitting an assignment, even though file does actually upload!

Our college is a recent adopter of Canvas, and I created some test assignments to have a dry run of the process with a small group of 3 test users.
For all 3 users, they uploaded a file as per the instructions, and received the 'Submit failed, please try again' error after their initial submission. However, in every case, the file had actually uploaded!
This happened again with further test assignments.
So whilst the Assignment submission file can be viewed in the Speedgrader, the student, when seeing this error would of course be concerned and contact the staff for clarification. This makes it impractical at this stage to deploy the key feature of online assignments for our students on Canvas.
Note that this error appeared with submitted files on Windows, Mac, and iPad, using Chrome on the current versions.
One user who consistently gets the error is using:
Microsoft Surface book 2: intel i5-8350U 1.90Ghz; 8GB RAM;
Windows version 11 patched up to date.
Chrome version 116.0.5845.179 64 bit official build
