I have a teacher whose courses are cross-listed and she chooses to enter different due dates for each section. When using Speed Grader, she is unable to switch between sections to grade the same assignment. When selecting a different section she gets an error message stating "Could not find any students in that section, falling back to showing all sections." She has to return to the assignment and switch the Group to Grade before entering Speed Grader. This is the case for any she has multiple due dates on. Is that the reason or might there be something else that is causing this?

It might be the case that this teacher has enabled the course setting "Launch SpeedGrader Filtered by Student Group." It might not be helpful. Its primary purpose is avoiding very slow SpeedGrader loads in courses with high enrollment (1000+). She can deactivate it by unchecking a box in the course Settings > Details tab.
How do I enable SpeedGrader to launch filtered by student group?

Probably not the case but are sections set up properly? I might check section membership under course settings in case there's an empty section...
I usually filter by section in the gradebook before going to speedgrader
