Resubmitted Assignments Marked Late

We have a pretty big situation. Many of our vendor items allow students to revisit them and sometimes resubmit them. However, even if the first attempt is submitted well within the due date, if they revisit and submit again it will be marked late. There is a way to manually undo this on the instructor level, but it's going to require a lot of effort, frustrated students, and things may get missed. Is there any way to prevent this from happening?

Hi @JeremyDavis144,
I don't believe there is currently a way to prevent this on the technology side of things. Basically when a submission comes in, Canvas checks if it's past the due date/time, and if so that submission is marked late.
One thing faculty could do is to set the available until and due day/time as the same, which would prevent any late submissions at all. For some classes this may work out okay, but for teachers who do want to sometimes to allow late submissions, it's not a great alternative.
Another approach is really one of communication to the students. Almost everything Canvas does is focused on the due date (notifications, the to-do list, etc). Teachers could stress to students the importance of doing things before that time, even if submissions afterwards are allowed.
I know neither of these suggestions are may be perfect, but I hope they could help a bit.
