Hi, how do you remove points from rubrics in enhanced rubrics?
Corresponding view in traditional rubrics:

Hello @jonna_radegard,
I did a Google search (without quotes) for "canvas enhanced rubrics use criterion without points" and received the following response from their AI overview feature:
Yes, Canvas enhanced rubrics allow you to use criteria without associating them with point values. This means you can still assess student work against specific criteria, providing detailed feedback, even if you are not assigning numerical grades for each criterion.
Here's how you can achieve this:
1. Create a Rubric: When creating a rubric, you'll have the option to remove points from it.
2. Define Criteria: Add your criteria (e.g., "Clarity," "Organization," "Evidence").
3. Assign Ratings: Provide descriptive ratings for each criterion (e.g., "Exceeds Expectations," "Meets Expectations," "Needs Improvement").
4. Use for Feedback: When grading, you can use the rubric to assess student work against each criterion and provide feedback based on the chosen ratings.
This approach is particularly useful for:
Outcome-based assessment: Focusing on whether students have met specific learning outcomes without directly grading each criterion.
Developmental feedback: Providing detailed feedback to students on areas for improvement without assigning a grade for each criterion.
Feedback-driven grading: Using the rubric's detailed feedback to inform overall assignment grades, rather than assigning individual points to each criterion.
With that said, if you follow the guidance in the How do I add a rubric in a course using Enhanced Rubrics? - Instructure Community - 609339 support article and its the "Select Type" section, there is the ability to pick either "Scale" or "Written Feedback". For that section, they also provide a note and it seems accurate to what you might be trying to accomplish.
Note: If you select Written Feedback, you will not be able to edit the default points or enable a point range.
Does that help you?
