Redirected to Microsoft Account Login

Hi, when following a link included in an email to an item in Canvas it prompts me to enter Microsoft login details. (login.microsoftonline.com/)

It won't recognize my gmail email address as an account.

If I go the actual login page XXX.instructure.com/login/canvas I can login and then go back to my email I can follow the link (This is clearly a workaround).

Any idea why when I select the link in the email without already being logged into canvas it prompts me to use login.microsoftonline.com/ and doesn't just take me straight to the canvas login page?

Hi @BenCUSD,

I think this question will probably need to be handled by your local Canvas team (usually in the eLearning / IT / Digital Education areas).  Authentication has a lot of variables that can come into play, and as just other Canvas users from around the world, we in the community here don't have access to your environment at all to check things out.  It sounds like your school has multiple login providers configured, which probably means they should use a "discovery page" to help users select the correct login page, but there can be many reasons why a school/institution might not want to go that route.  Hopefully your local team can go over this with you and make any necessary adjustments on the Canvas side if they so choose.
