Pending status - does it effect access?

Hello,

In one of our courses, students were added using + People. A few have not accepted invitations and have "Pending" next to their names.

However, those same "Pending" students have accessed the course via links from a separate source and have been active in the course, visiting pages and completing quizzes.

Apparently, on our Canvas platform, "Pending" does not interfere with course access and students are not required to accept invitations.

Question:

Just to confirm, do students with Pending status have full access to the course? Or does Pending status prevent full access to the course?

This doesn't sound right - it shouldn;t be possible for students who are marked pending to access the course.

There would be two possibilities to my mind

• Have students been added under a different userID
• Has the course been set to institutional or public access (normally you won't see such access in New Analytics AFAIK)

Thanks. I learned from university IT that our platform has a customized + People tool and some of the issue is connected to that tool.
