Latest Canvas update breaks Gradebook in Safari

The Canvas Gradebook was loading fine for me at about 4PM yesterday but by about 6PM it would not load. The frame was blank (I could see content start to load but quickly disappear) with the exception of the keyboard shortcut icon, which was non-responsive to a click.

I am blaming the recent update:

I am using Safari 14 on Mojave (I don't want to update the OS at this time) which is nominally unsupported but has been working as expected. Also, the Gradebook will load in Firefox 99, which is also listed as unsupported.

I have tried some java console-fu to avoid this change ("set default grade") to the Gradebook to no avail.

Anybody else see this and maybe have a workaround?

I also have this problem on firefox 91.11.0esr. Also not officially supported, but I don't have the option of upgrading.

We are seeing the same issue with Firefox 109 - the Gradebook will refuse to load until the user clears their cache. This is just since the most recent update. Anyone else seeing this?

Yep, was fine last week, now broken. Javascript console shows an error in the code...

We have faculty with Safari 14 & 15 that are also experiencing this problem. It seems to work fine in Safari 16.

I reported this to Instructure Support and received the following reply: "we were able to confirm that this is a known behavior several users have been seeing with earlier versions of Safari. It seems this behavior is limited to affecting users who have not updated to 16.3, and users who have actually updated are not seeing the behavior....Since you mentioned that not all faculty can update their MacOS to get Safari updated, we recommend having those users utilize another supported browser such as Chrome, Firefox, or Edge to access their gradebooks." I did suggest they need to update the supported browser information since the inability to view the grade book in any but the most current version of Safari would seem to be a problem.
