Hi @lwallis,
I cannot speak for other features or functionality with other originality checkers or AI detectors but Turnitin does not integrate with discussions in Canvas and only integrates with assignments.
I have heard from Turnitin that they are aware of the desire for Turnitin to integrate with Canvas discussions and that they are working on something like that but nothing else (at least not that I have seen) stated publicly.
Usually Turnitin and Canvas, the only way that you can do this is if you:
- have students type their discussion posts/replies originally in something like Microsoft Word and save it as either a DOC/DOCX or PDF file
- you create a Canvas assignment and configure it to use Turnitin
- students submit their DOC/DOCX or PDF into the Canvas assignment
- students copy the text of their post out of Microsoft Word
- students paste the text of their post into a discussion post/reply
As you can see, that requires double the work, can lead to confusion (unless expectations are thoroughly communicated and understand and acknowledged by students), and is not ideal for the back-and-forth dialogue that is expected with a discussion.
Maybe someone else has figured out another way to do it with Turnitin but I have not.
