How to keep Discussion tree fully expanded all the time?

Hi Everyone,

The latest update to Canvas has each initial post showing, and under each how many replies. This requires both me as Professor and all students in the class to hit that to open and see the peer posts for that specific initial post.

What I prefer is that all the peer posts are shown for all initial posts.

Why? Because many students are kind of lazy and will only read the initial posts. I have been teaching online for over 15 years (almost 40 total) and prior to this update (where the tree is not fully expanded), there would be long discussions under 1 initial post. Now with this not expanded tree, this is no longer happening.

Yes a bit less scrolling, but also a lot less engagement and less learning.

I would like to have the ability to set discussion as expanded for everyone. You might not want that so you will then have the ability to set it to not be a fully expanded tree.

Phew!  So is this a possibility and if so, how do I set my courses to have a fully expanded tree in Discussion?

Many thanks,

Stephen Shore

 Hi @Flyfish2,

If you check out  Discussions End of Quarter update - Q3 2024 - Instructure Community - 619724  (from Friday, October 25th) you will see that this (or some of it) is being developed so that it is included in future updates to Canvas discussions.
