I'd like to be able to show students a rubric for their papers at the start of the semester. However, the rubric appears at the bottom of the paper assignment page, and that page is not visible until its release date, which is later in the semester. Is there a simple way to show students a rubric as part of the syllabus, or link to it in the syllabus? Thanks!
I don't think the rubric can be linked aprt form how it's visible in assignments - you therefore cannot add it to canvas auto-created syllabus.
You could screen grab it and post it in your course expectations etc
Brian, thanks - I'll do that. It seems very strange to me - one of the chief purposes of a rubric is to make clear to students the standard for grading, and so I'm surprised there isn't a simple way to share that kind of information with students. Thanks again for the response!
@BrianLester you can choose to add the Rubrics link to navigation.
I'm perplexed as to rubrics not showing which suggests that you may be using a release date rather than 'available from'.
Our experienced behaviour (paid version) is that apart from Quizzes, an assignment and its details and rubrics are visible to students before the 'available from' date has elapsed.
If we want students to have the general information but not the specific task/question we add this as a file in a "Timed Release Folder" in Files, where it is set to release at the appropriate point. Hence students can see the conditions and rubric for a timed task in advance, and the task itself at the appointed hour....
Hey @paul_fynn ...
@BrianLester you can choose to add the Rubrics link to navigation.
Are you talking about adding the "Rubrics" menu item to the left-hand course navigation? If so, "Rubrics" does not show for students. It only shows for instructors. I wasn't quite sure if this is what you were suggesting, but wanted to provide clarification just in case. It sounds like Daniel wants his students to see rubrics before seeing the assignment instructions.
Of course you are right @Chris_Hofer - thanks for the correction.
Hi @paul_fynn,
I wonder if the rubric being visible or not before the available from date is affected by the assignment enhancements flag. We have assignment enhancements on at my institution, and I just did some tests to confirm that students do not see an assignment rubric before the available from date. Would be interested to know if assignment enhancements is off at your institution.
