How do I prevent calendar events from being listed in the student to-do list?

I am using a Calendar event for each day to post what we do in class (the Canvas event mirrors what I write on the board for students to see in class). Events work well for this, however, each event automatically shows up in the student's to-do list on their dashboard screen. Is there a way to stop this from happening? I couldn't find it in the Event settings nor the course settings. Thanks!
