HTML Use Pictures not showing

When utilizing HTML for tasks such as crafting an announcement, I typically replicate the HTML code and paste it into a separate Canvas classroom announcement. However, I have encountered an issue where the graphics fail to display in the new course announcement after pasting. Could this be related to a specific setting that needs to be enabled or possibly a feature that requires additional access or payment? I have noted that this functionality works seamlessly with other institutions' Canvas platforms. What could be the potential reasons for this discrepancy in functionality at a different institution?  They instead recommend inserting every graphic after pasting the content.

Hi @MatthewFowler

When you are linking to the images in the announcement, how are you adding the images, and where are the images located?

Simply cutting and pasting HTML from one course to another is likely including image links that are pointing to image files that are stored in the previous course, which would not be accessible to students in the new course.

One way to check for broken image links is to use the Link Validation tool (https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Instructor-Guide/How-do-I-validate-links-in-a-course/ta-p/1001 ), which will check for links that are broken, or that point to resources from a different course which would not be accessible to students.

@MatthewFowler ...

I agree with the information from @mzimmerman.  I'll just add that if you had copied HTML from one course to another and you were still able to see the images in both courses (even though the Course ID numbers in the URLs were different), students wouldn't necessarily be able to also see the image in the course(s) you copied the HTML into.  Since you had access to both courses, I can see where you'd be able to view the image in both courses.  But, most likely, your students aren't enrolled in both courses...so they would not be able to see the image like you.

If you want to ensure that content is copying from one course to another, I'd recommend using the Course Import Tool instead.  You can even select specific content to import (copy) if you don't want to copy an entire course.  For example, maybe you only want to copy a few announcements with embedded images from one course to another.  This can easily be done with the Course Import Tool.

How do I select specific content as part of a course import?

When selecting the content to import (copy), you could select only the announcements you want to use, and it should also include any other linked documents and/or embedded images from those announcements as well.

I hope this extra bit of information will be helpful to you.
