Gradebook Late Settings

Hello,

I appreciate the Late Submission settings in Gradebook, however I would like more options here.  I really need there to be an option for a ONE-TIME late penalty of 50% of what is EARNED on an assignment.  This is my class policy and it frustrates students and parents constantly that my policy and what Canvas reflects is not consistent.  Just one more option with "hourly" and "daily" would be great!

This sounds like a great idea. As a workaround, would the Lowest possible grade setting work for you? You would set the Late submission deduction to 50% and Deduction interval to hour. If that is not exactly what you want, you may want to check out this previously submitted idea.

Hello, yes, I have tried those but it does not work.  I REALLY want the drop down option to have the option for 1 time deduction.  Setting the lowest as 50% does not work because I want the students' scores to reflect half of what they EARNED not half what is possible.  The previously submitted idea would also be very helpful.

Since the automatic late policy considers the total grade and not the student's score, what you are asking (Canvas calculate a percentage of the earned score) isn't possible.  Alternatively, I recommend that when you are grading late submissions, you award 50 percent of the points you would normally award for the submission and make sure that the late status is indicated on the submission to assist with explaining the score.
