Hey @CassidyCorta1!
In my experience, once I have added a file to a Google Assignment in Canvas, I cannot change the file. Also, once students have opened the document and created their own copy, there is not a way to update their copy from the assignment.
One suggestion for the future would be to keep the assignment unpublished until everything is set up the way you would like it. That way students won't be able to access the assignment and file(s) before they are ready.
Here are two options that could help your current situation:
- You could unpublish (or remove from a module) the current assignment and create a completely new Google Assignment with the correct updated Google Doc attached for all students to make a copy.
- Another option could be to add the share link (view only) of the updated Google Doc to the directions for the current Google Assignment. Students can click on the link to open the updated version of the Doc, select all and copy the content of the updated Doc, and paste it into their current Doc associated with the assignment. (If it is just a certain section or a few questions that are missing, you could always just add whatever is missing to a Google Doc and link it to the instructions as previously mentioned.)
Hope this helps. Feel free to reply back if you have questions.
