Hello @christiemcc
Thank you for contacting the Instructure Community. The Google assignments should work as intended on a browser. In fact, it will usually give students less issues than the app. Which browser are they using? Are the students at home or at school using the school wifi? Their own personal computer or school ones? Tablets or computer/laptop? If they're using school computers or are at the school there is likely some type of firewall or blocker set in place and you should speak with the school directly to resolve the issue. If they are all at home using personal devices, It is likely their internet browser and we recommend clearing the cache and cookies or trying another browser.
In Chrome
On your computer, open Chrome.
At the top right, click the three dots
Click settings
On the left, choose Privacy and Security
Then, clear browsing data
At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time. I suggest at least 4 weeks
Next to "Cookies and other site data" and "Cached images and files," check the boxes.
Click Clear data.
Beyond that, they can check their browser settings and permissions. Do they get actual errors or the assignment never launches? If none of that seems to resolve the issue I would speak with your school help desk directly or you can try contacting Canvas Support:
