Forming groups or sections based on ranked preferences

Are other institutions using a tool to match students based on ranked preferences?

But because it doesn't exist within Canvas itself i wonder if there are tools that can be integrated with Canvas or what other institutions have build themselves.

Hello @j_braak,

While I do not have experience with it myself, I do know a faculty member who uses the CATME Team-Maker tool. It might be possible to manipulate the criteria in order for the students to rank their preferences. If you try it, let us know how it turns out!

I'm going to mark @james_whalley's suggestion as a solution, as it does seem like it may work.  If that solution doesn't work for your needs, please let us know.  Other community members can continue to make other suggestions if they come across this thread, as many times a question can have multiple solutions.  Marking at least one answer as a solution helps come community members focus on new/unanswered questions, so I hope you don't mind me taking this action.
