File submission issue

When trying to attach a file to the text box, an error pops up on my screen and says “file exceeds quota”. I sent a problem ticket to canvas and they replied back to me with “Media embedded to discussions using Canvas's new Rich Content Editor (RCE) is uploaded to a users personal file storage instead of the assignments submission files. This space is limited to 50MB; therefore causing you to receive this error. To successfully uploaded media for graded discussions, students must use the Attach option listed below the discussion textbox.”. The attach option was not available at the time of submission, which resulted me in inserting my document through the insert>document tab and creating it into a link. Will this issue keep occurring?

Hi there, @CalieBenjamin ...

Yes...this will most likely be an issue still.  Your instructor has an option that can be configured in his/her course "Settings" screen that says:

Let students attach files to discussions.

If this option is checked, then you would have the option to attach files as shown in this Guide:

How do I attach a file to a discussion reply as a ... - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com)

However, if your instructor does not have this option checked, then you would not be able to attach files via that method.  And, as you've found out through Canvas Support, you'd have to free up some of your available 50 MB of file space to be able to attach other files.

How do I view my user files as a student? - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com)

Here is a Guide that you could give your instructor to see if he/she would be willing to check this setting for your course discussion topic(s):

How do I allow students to attach files to a cours... - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com)

Finally, to get in contact with your instructor directly in Canvas, you can follow the instructions in this Guide:

How do I get help with Canvas as a student?

I hope this information will be helpful to you.  Sing out if you have any questions...thanks!
