Does student annotation assignment have an editing function

Why can't the student annotation assignment work like speedgrader, where we can go in and out and add comments, highlighting etc...?  From what I understand, the student annotation assignment does not allow editing if the students wants to add something after submitting. My students could spend hours annotating a document, forget a few items, and then have to resubmit the entire assignment in order to add a highlight/note they forgot the first time.

As an instructor, having to wade through previous submissions and remember the annotations in order to grade the annotated document seems tedious and unnecessary.

Is there any way for students to edit their annotations after submitting?

Wading through multiple submissions is a pain, @acampbell3. In order to make it easy for students to perfect their submissions to an annotation assignment, another option is to use Google Assignments. This allows you to select a Google Document, Sheet, or Slides file for students to annotate. Note that this requires the Google Assignments external tool to be installed in your Canvas instance.
