I need to assign modules to specific students. Canvas let me assign 20 out of 50 students in my class but now keeps giving me the error message in the title. Now I can't assign this work. I'm pretty sure that Canvas and AI are going to drive me out of this profession. It makes doing my job so much harder. Any help much appreciated.

If you are on hosted Canvas it's a good idea to file a support ticket for an issue like this.
Also make sure your internet connection is good.
Sorry I can't offer a quicker fix

Hi @PatriciaEamon,
What happens if you have a smaller number of students to the module and then save? You could then try to add more student gradually until all of them have been added.
Either way, if there is a problem adding that many students, the only way to resolve it is to report it to Canvas Support directly.
Another option (also not a quicker solution) if you are regularly assigning that many students to a module, you might want to consider working with your institution's Canvas team to create an additional section within your course. That is, if you do not have the ability to (1) create sections on your own and (2) add people to a section).
Those 20 students could be enrolled into both the original section and into the additional section. Yes, it is possible to have one user account enrolled into different sections in the same course shell.
