Automatic zero for no submission

I would like for a zero to automatically be applied when a student has "no submission" by the due date. I have already went to grades, then "late policies", then checked the box that said "Automatically apply grade for missing submissions" and made sure the Grade for missing submissions percentage was set to zero. However, it's still not working
