I'm trying to track down information about auto-captioning. I know that auto-captions are available with Studio, but I've been told that auto-captions WITHOUT Studio (i.e., vanilla Canvas) are coming soon.
Does anyone have any information they can link to about that?
There is this roadmap item: Captions for all Canvas media can be automatically generated and published..., listed in the Canvas Roadmap for Q2-Q3 2025, but it is listed under Canvas Studio, so I'm not sure if it really applies to media outside of Studio.
Thanks Gabriel33. I did indeed see this roadmap and it spurred the question.
is auto captioning going to extend beyond Canvas Studio?
Hi @SeanQuallen,
I believe there are plans to do so, but it looks like it is in Beta.
Thanks for this. Looks like that beta period was supposed to be over already, so I'm not really sure if/when this actually happens.
I don't have any details on when, but I wanted to chime in with my agreement that this feature is probably coming. With the WCAG 2.1 Level AA rule coming in about a year, this would help with at least 1.2.2 level-A. Ideally, this implementation (without requiring the paid Studio platform) will allow you to edit the captions it generates, as they are not 100% correct. I wonder if they will provide us with a solution to help us meet success criterion 1.2.5, level AA.
