Assignments Reordering Themselves

I'm having a very strange issue with both the assignments tab and the gradebook tab on Canvas. On Monday, everything was ordered correctly in my gradebook. For me, the correct order is the order in which I assigned each assignment. Everything in my gradebook was in the order in which I assigned it. I was able to move around the assignment columns as needed to keep everything in order when I added new assignments.

I just checked Canvas again today, Friday 4/25/25, and my entire gradebook is inexplicably out of order. I went to the settings cog in the top-right corner, and checked what view I was in. It said I was in the default view which is the view I always use. I tried some of the other views, but none of those were correct either. When I went back to default view, everything was still out of order.

At this point, I tried to drag the assignment columns back into the correct order, but any time I left the tab, it all went back to being out of order. I did some research online to see if anyone had solutions, and the only thing I found was to try moving my assignments into the correct order in the assignments tab. I spent awhile in the assignments tab putting everything into the correct, original order (because I've never really used that tab). 

When I went back to see if that fixed the default view of the gradebook, nothing had changed. My gradebook was still out of order. Then, I went back to the assignments tab and saw that all of the changes I had just made were reverted/didn't save. Everything was out of order in the assignments tab again. It seems that any changes I make to the assignment order in either the gradebook tab or assignments tab get erased as soon as I leave the page. This has never been an issue for me before today. As far as I'm aware, there's no "save" button or anything that I need to press to save my changes. Having everything out of order is making it very confusing and frustrating to try to grade assignments!

To recap, I've tried:

1) Changing the view of my gradebook

2) Reordering the assignment columns manually, and

3) Reordering the assignments in the assignment tab.

Hi @JosieSub-Blubau,

I do not have an exact answer for you but two suggestions:

1. first (temporarily), ignore the order of assignments in the "Grades" area of the course and do the best to put things in order in the "Assignments" area (at least initially, ignore what effects that has in the "Grades" area)
2. follow the guidance from the person at T2MTU: Resetting Column Order in Your Gradebook
