[Rubrics] Outcome-Rubric Integration

Problem statement:

Using outcomes is a good way to check that students are meeting SLOs or MLOs and offer a good addition to or part of a rubric. However, outcomes can clash when not graded with a rubric. This creates a small hiccup where instructors grade a rubric and then need to separately grade the outcomes based on that. Considering that assignments (especially large ones) are graded on a point value, those can be hard to translate to the pre-made 5-point scale outcomes use. While an instructor can calculate that a 70% on an assignment or part of an assignment means a 3 or 2 for an outcome, this is cumbersome and slow.

Proposed solution:

A feature that links a grading rubric to outcomes and automatically used the graded rubric to measure and track outcomes would be useful. In this model, grading a rubric with outcomes on it automatically marks the outcome(s) based on the grade. So if a student is graded at 70% of the total score, the outcome is automatically marked with a 2 or 3 or whatever the instructor deems it. This might even be possible to link a specific criteria to one outcome and doe the same. This would allow for quicker and more objective outcome grading and make the feature work better, especially when the outcome is not being used as part of the graded total.

Hi, @MPalazzo! Thank you for sharing this idea. It is actually something already on our product team's radar and that we are considering as part of the improvements we want to make to rubrics. I'm adding this to the theme of "Improved rubric creation and usability", which was the top voted theme during our latest round of voting and we'll keep you updated on if this is prioritized in that body of work.
