Admin: Grades Export w/ Multiple Grading Periods

I was asked to post this as a 'Feature Request' by a Canvas Technical Support Engineer, so here it goes:

... The Admin level (account level) report for Grade Export uses a Filter that is Term-based (by default).  That is excellent when one does not use "Multiple Grading Periods" (most colleges), but very difficult and mostly not useful if one does (high schools and lower).  The trouble is due to it not allowing the report to capture the grading window (grading period).  It would need an expanded filter to allow a selection of the grading period.  At our High School we have setup Multiple Grading Periods at the Account Level (Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4), so all Teachers inherit the default grading periods and single grading scheme.  The solution would be a multi-value lookup pair for the report dropdown (allowing me to choose the Term, then the Grading period).

The benefit to folks who support the LMS would be an export with assignments based on the date ranges of the Grading Period (If I chose Q2, I get Q2, not the whole Term, etc...).  Aside from the Organizational Data by Grading Period benefit, we would also be able to get Grading Period Level Totals by Class/Quarter for an SMS import  (using Secondary SIS ID and Total Points columns from the export).

Please consider this, it is a NATURAL next step Report Feature for your Multiple Grading Periods

There is a lot of information floating around about this - can someone please help me?

I need to get a snapshot of where our students are right now.  First nine weeks is closed and report cards printed - so I want something that will tell me where my students (school wide) are for second nine weeks grade only.  Is there anyway for an admin to run that report yet?  I just want to run it for the whole school and not ask my teachers to do it.

I am from a higher ed institution which needs to be able to export the gradebook by date range or "prior 1 day, prior 1 week". I already did my research and it is not possible, which is a huge disappointment and will create a lot more work for me on a daily basis. I just wanted to make another plea to the Canvas team to develop this feature. It is so obvious, it is very strange that it wasn't included from the very start...

We were so close with the "Letter Grades by Section" report, but it only pulls the entire default term, it doesn't look at the grading periods.  Why can't the developers start with that report and  have it look at grading periods rather than terms?

 @valentina_fearn , it sounds like what you are wanting is different from this feature idea; grading terms is something very specific in Canvas. My recommendation is to create your own feature idea for this - How to write a good feature idea submission​.

I have heard that work is underway on this from our CSM, via the dev team.  We are all hoping to see something soon.  There was a possibility that they might insert totals for each grading period into the existing report to give us something to work with at report card time, but nothing formal yet has made it to Beta.  Ask your CSM's to ask for an update.

Something new....  Yesterday I noticed that on the Admin grade export, if you have students from another Canvas instance/institution (via trusts), they are not there (they only show up in the Teacher-level gradebook export).  I am not sure how to get this gradebook data from the Admin export in a trust scenario, but we would need it as well (as our goal is to grab the export by grading period and then use it for import into our SIS {which does not speak with Canvas}.

Hi all,

With the new Multiple Grading Periods report and the new MGP's/Term (Grading Sets) we are super happy.  Now the only part missing is specific to schools like ours that have trusts between independent instances.  The MGP Admin Report does not give student grade data from the other school.  This student data is there when a Teacher runs the gradebook export at the course level, but not there at the admin level.  I am pondering why in one spot, but not in another.  Renee, etc.... can we ask the Dev team who works on this to have a look?  Maybe this what not in their initial sprint specs, as trusts are rare.
