Canvas route to Index page instead of default page

Hello everyone,

I quite new to canvas, I tried to follow the Prod installation guide here.

No issue happen, I started:

• Redis
• Postgresql
• Canvas_init
• Apache2

But when I point to the server, it displays the index, not the default page.

I tried to search on Internet but no luck. Someone told that it's because passenger doesn't work.

Could anyone help me with this? Thank you

Like Duy Nguyen, I am new to canvas. I followed the same guide and when I navigate to the installation, I get the index page and not the login page. Did anyone find an answer for this?

I have gone through it twice with the same result running on Ubuntu 20.04 and from what i can see there is no default document set it /vat/canvas/public

Hi!

I was facing the same issue myself, but after a lot of struggling i managed to solve it. This was using Ubuntu 20.04 on a Google Cloud services VM (e2-standard-2) with 2 cores, 8 GB of memory and 20 GB of partitioned storage.

I followed this guide, which was mostly good, but with a few modifications since it perhaps wasn't up to date anymore:

I changed step 2 to install a newer version of node and to also install gulp globally

I also updated step 5 to remove mv commands for files which are now removed from the production build of Canvas. The script for migrating the DB was also removed as this is not needed for a clean build.

In step 7 I ignored all certbot installations for Nginx as I was using Apache2 instead.

The above steps solved some errors I encountered along the way, but I believe this issue is caused by a missing instruction in step 8. 

sudo unlink /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default.conf  makes Apache2 ignore the original config, however this is only for http requests on port 80. The default config for https requests on the 443 port was still loaded. To change this I did 

sudo unlink /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default-le-ssl.conf and this seemed to solve the issue for me. When I restarted apache2 after this I was finally able to reach the login page.

To see the current config settings I used sudo apache2ctl -DDUMP_CONFIG which allowed me to find the error in the config files.

I haven't tested the functionality of Canvas fully yet, but I hope this can be of help for anyone else trying to self-host canvas! The production start guide really needs an update in order to be useful for anybody.
