Catalog Release Notes (2024-11-04)

In this Catalog release (November 4), the Disable Drop Course/Program option allows admins to disable the ability for students to drop courses or programs. Also, when an admin updates the enrollment end date for a specific course section, only that section’s end date and the corresponding program’s enrollment end date are updated.

Canvas Catalog is an all-in-one learning solution that integrates with the Canvas LMS as a course registration system, payment gateway, and learning platform. Learn more about Canvas Catalog.

The Disable Drop Course/Program Button option allows admins to disable the ability for students to drop courses or programs. This feature allows admins to prevent students from dropping courses or programs on their own, reducing the risk of unintentional drops and helping to maintain enrollment stability.

When an admin updates the enrollment end date for a specific course section, only that section’s end date and the corresponding program’s enrollment end date are updated. Other course sections within the same program are unaffected, ensuring isolated updates and preventing unintended date synchronization.

Previously, when an admin modified the enrollment end date (ends_at) for a specific course section within a multi-course program in Catalog, the enrollment end dates for all sections in that program would synchronize automatically. This unintended synchronization led to complications, especially when multiple enrollment date changes were made in quick succession, potentially causing infinite loops due to unprocessed changes.

This update enhances flexibility and control in program and course management, minimizing the risk of unintended behavior and improving the stability of enrollment date handling across Catalog.
