We've gotten a request from one of our customers to add some Google Analytics to a specific sub-catalog in order to gather additional data about how customers are interacting with that site. I've played with the custom Javascript section of catalog customization, but since that page doesn't allow you to edit the header, I've been having some trouble with it.
Has anyone else been able to add these kinds of features to a subcatalog or have any recommendations?
I have not tried this but maybe @bernstlc could help you out with this?
We have added some Google Analytics to our site. @tyler_clair helped me set it up. Hopefully he can give you some insights on how he did it.
I have the same request to add google analytics to a specific sub-catalog. @Eric, did you manage to achieve this or can someone advise? Thanks!
@jfloyd23 please see above.
So far no luck. I had moved onto other projects, but hoping to try again in December.
Thanks Eric, I'd be interested to know how you go. Cheers, Dan
Has anyone successfully added Google Analytics to their Canvas Catalog? Did you have to break it out by subaccounts? I would love to hear more about your experience.
Hi everyone,
I spoke to an engineer at Instructure and they said if you put the lines of code at the root under the customization page -- it will work. They said they will be willing to help if necessary.
Jessica
Just an FYI our office has found that if you are looking to track queried pages via Google Analytics in Catalog (i.e. search pages with a URL query parameter "?query=skills"), the URL is manipulated by the Catalog software & eliminates all tracking completely.
We've spoken with Support and the engineers who added this functionality are no longer working for Instructure, and no one has a clear idea of why it was implemented and cannot provide any explanation to how it is useful for Catalog or users.
We've submitted a feature request here and will soon have our Director reach out to our CSM letting them know how negatively this impacts our marketing strategies.
Thanks for the update. I will bring this up with Instructure.
Hi! I realize this post has been around a while, it looks like the link to the feature request is no longer active. Is this still a request out in the ether? Wondering if you ever got this working. We're new Catalog clients trying to get the same thing working.
Also would love if anyone would share their JS code! It seems like the same sort of injection that we made in the Canvas LMS is not working on catalog.
I tried looking for the feature idea and I do not see it any longer. Here is another post about customization: https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Catalog-Users/Does-your-institution-customize-your-Canvas-Catalog...
Does this mean the GA code ONLY works when it's in the root? We have a lot of sub and sub-subs that would like their own GA codes.
Thanks!
Yes, @makraft , it will only work in the root, unfortunately.
Hi all,
Hi all,
This is something we are looking to install also, I have voted for the idea shared above. Hopefully, this is something that can be worked out!
Thanks for your update Jessica, I will be asking for more information on this via our customer success manager and will report back if I find anything more out.
Liam
Perfect, thank you.
Hi @jfloyd23
