Hi, all!

At Instructure we believe in thoughtful, strategic, ethical implementation of new technologies. We are committed to partnering with our customers and the edtech community at large to develop a positive and responsible approach to the use of AI.

Instructure has been taking a thoughtful approach to leveraging generative AI technology in our products.

Our organization is fortunate to have an incredible legal team who has invested in deeply understanding the emerging policy and legal landscape of artificial intelligence in education technology. We connect with Daisy Bennett (@daisybennett), Instructure's Associate General Counsel and Data Protection Officer, to learn more about Instructure's approach to an ethical AI strategy.

There are lots of organisations creating resources for schools. These tools are to support the teacher in being more efficient when creating resources for lesson planning and student AI tools to enhance student learning and understanding of a topic. We would like to see this integrated into Canvas, ensuring ethical considerations around a closed system for our school where students can prompt for information on external large learning models, but the information that they create stays within our institution.  At present, we are using a number of tools external to Canvas, and it would streamline this and provide consistency.

Great point. So many organizations are promising to have the best Ai tool for Ed, it would be great to include the features in Canvas. One benefit of having these tools in Canvas is it allows teachers a single place as well as a place to organize all the tools ideas etc. Many of these tools provide a benefit and idea for educators, but it is like going to multiple stores to find ingredients for a recipe. Perhaps Canvas will be able to acquire, implement or create an in platform framework....?
