Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
Is it just me or is the UX/UI of Canvas--what used to set it apart and above other LMSs--getting worse and worse? Every new feature (e.g., Quizzes.Next, Student Dashboard, New Gradebook) seems to have a clunky interface to go along with it. Seriously, it makes me sad. I hope hope hope what we're seeing are phases of development that just haven't come together yet...but I'm starting to lose hope. Anyone with me?
Well if the new 'menu' doesn't make your blood run cold, nothing will. Why is 'Settings' and 'Studio' not following the same rules? Neither are available to students, but they don't have the hidden 'eye' icon. And when you remove studio from the side menu, it disappears, but discussions/announcements etc don't. Inconsistent rules that seem to rely on people having prior knowledge.
All 3rd party LTIs and the like can be hidden, but the 'core' functionalities stay. This is going to get confusing. We have people who use a 3rd party Discussion App, which can be hidden but the discussions link will stay. And just to top it off, the number of people who assume the eye is a toggle switch *sigh. And that was the experience tester users. Is there a BETA testing group for the new Rich Text Editor (RTE)? We also noticed that the <code> preformatted code element is not a choice anymore. This is used throughout computer science/etc courses.
Mute Grades was an intuitive and popular feature among our faculty members. Its replacement, Hide Grades & Post Grades is a travesty of UX/UI design.
My personal suspicion is that they have recently hired someone from Blackboard..
Ha! Or Microsoft.
