How can I add captions to a media comment in SpeedGrader?

Using the media caption option to record comments for student submissions. How can I add a video with captions? I tried adding a link to a Studio recording, but the links are not clickable. The student would need to copy and paste into another browser window.

In the image below. 1) Shared link from Studio recording. Not clickable. 2) Media comment option does not have have captioning option.

Any help would be appreciated.

Right now, the captioning functionality is not available in SpeedGrader. However, I found these ideas, and I think they fit well with this discussion:

Hello there,  @joseph_rutledge ...

You mentioned that the video lives inside Canvas Studio ... and I can also tell that from the URL you've shared in your image.  I'm not sure if that video was an original video (something created by you) or a YouTube video.  If it was an original video, then Studio would be able to auto-caption that video for you, but you'd still need to go through it with a fine-tooth comb to make any corrections to the captions that were generated (it's not 100% perfect).  However, if the video that was loaded into Studio was a YouTube video, you cannot request auto-captions due to some legal stuff.  So, it would be up to you to manually caption the YouTube video.  Or, if you know the location of where the video resides on the YouTube website, you could give your students a link to the video there instead of the link to the video within Canvas Studio.  The owner of that video can have it auto-captioned or manually put in the captions, but those captions to not carry over to Canvas Studio.

Manually adding captions to existing videos can be quite a bit of work, so just a fair warning for you about this.

Thank you for your response. I just noticed that I wrote "media caption option" instead of "media comment option" of SpeedGrader.

I am aware of the captioning features in Studio. I had thought to leave the Studio recording part out of my initial question because I am actually looking to add captions to a media comment of SpeedGrader. I thought I could do it by linking to a Studio recording that has captions into a SpeedGrader text comment box, but when you add a URL, the link is not clickable. The student would need to copy and paste that link into another browser window to view the recording with captions. If I am using video comments for all my students, this just makes the student who needs captions work harder to get feedback from their instructor.

Just wanted to add to this thread that now you can add a caption file to a media comment in speedgrader.  Click the cc button in the player when viewing the comment and there's an option to choose the language and upload a file.  It works!  Thank you Instructure.
