Grade book history follow student progression

Is there (an easy) way to follow the progression of grades within a course? I would like to see how the assessment changes over time, e.g. from incomplete to complete, or development of scores. I know I can get this information individually for the students and somehow in the Grade Book history log but this is cumbersome (to say the least) to view on a course basis. A snapshot of grades at specified times or initial/first and final grade would be a good start although this may require some post-processing (ideally without having to do this manually!!!).

That would be an extremely useful feature indeed. I'm viewing the progress of my students in each course using modules. But I would like to know if anyone is using an easier method for progress monitoring.
