Does Canvas allow multiple part assignments in Turnitin?

Our institution is switching from Moodle to Canvas.  In Moodle, it was easy to make assignments that were comprised of multiple parts.  For example, a midterm or final exam could have two or three parts, where one essay could be submitted to part 1, another essay to part 2, etc.  Can I do this in Canvas, or do I (as it appears) have to make a separate assignment for each part of my exam?  That's inconvenient, both logistically and for grading, as I would have to add the separate grades for the grade book.

Hi David, welcome to the Canvas Community.

For what you describe the best answer sounds like using a Quiz with multiple Essay or File upload questions.  Unfortunately, the TurnItIn integration in Canvas only works with Assignments and not essay questions in Quizzes.  ☹️

So if using TurnItIn with this particular item is integral to what you are doing I think having multiple assignments is about the only way to go.

Thanks for your response.  Do you think having separate parts of an essay midterm (that is, separate assignments, one for each essay) is better than having the student submit both essays in one part, maybe with a page break between essays?

And can a student return to the Assignment Inbox to add an essay, make changes, etc., once an essay is submitted?

I know it's been a while since you asked your follow-up questions. I hope you were able to find a solution before now.

I think separate assignments would be easier for the students, and it would be easier to monitor the originality scores.

Once a student submits an item, as the instructor, you need to allow additional submissions through the TurnItIn interface, I believe.
