Delete gradebook column (not assignment)

How do I delete a column that I didn't create in gradebook?  I have a column called "imported assignments" which I did not add, nor do I import assignments, yet it's there. This is NOT an assignment to remove (I know how to remove that)--it's a ghost column that I don't want or need.

Hi  @bwaggens ...

Go to your "Assignments" index page in your course, and you should see an assignment group called "Imported Assignments".  This is typically added to a course if assignments have been imported from one course to another...in my experience.  Assuming that you don't have any assignments within this assignment group, go ahead and delete it...which will remove that column from the Gradebook.  This is covered at the bottom of How do I add an assignment group in a course?.  You may need to move any assignments that are in "Imported Assignments" to a different group before deleting that assignment group, though.

Related question -- Why do I need an column called "Assignments" in gradebook. I already have a column for each assignment and I have a total column. What is the purpose of the "Assignments" column? Can I remove . . . OF COURSE I do not want to lose all my assignments, which are listed in the Assignments group.

My deepest apologies for not seeing your question until now.

Hopefully you've been able to find an answer to your question by now.  If not, I'll try and respond.  In the "Assignments" index page, you have to have at least one "Assignments" assignment group which lists all your graded assignments for the course.  That's just how things work in Canvas.  You cannot delete the single assignment group.  There has to be at least one assignment group...by default called "Assignments".  You use assignment groups to weight your assignments.  So, for example, you might have an assignment group called "Quizzes" worth 30% of the total grade, another assignment group called "Journals" worth another 30%, and then a final assignment group called "Essays" worth 40% of the total grade...for a grand total of 100%.  You then put the related assignments in those groups with whatever number of points you want for each assignment.  Canvas calculates the grades based on those points and the weighted assignment groups.
