Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
We have setup an assignment with the following dates:
Due Date = 10/13 11:59pm
Available From = 10/5 11:59pm
Until 10/13 11:59pm
We always use the Available From and Until dates so that Canvas will not accept late assignments.
Until now this method of dating assignments has worked fine.
As of the last two days when we are in Student View and open the assignment Canvas says:
"This assignment is part of the module Week 10, which is locked until Oct 13 at 11:59pm."
Can you help?
Thank you.

Look at the Module that this specific assignment belongs to. It looks like the Module has a lock date of Oct 13 at 11:59 pm. You will need to change the lock date on the Module to have students access the Assignment.

Canvas says to use the Available From and Until dates when you will not accept a late assignment.
And that is correct, @ggillombardo . However, in addition to the dates that can be set on an assignment, a lock date can be set on an entire module. Please check the module to see if it has a lock date. This message—"This assignment is part of the module Week 10, which is locked until Oct 13 at 11:59pm"—is referring to the module, not to the assignment.
My assignment lock on submit date I did respond the assignment to Professor due date Wednesday 24 10:30.Good
I was trying to submit my exam before (Wednesday) 10: 30 pm but due technical issue with my scanner.Iwas unable to get my scanner answer submitted on Canvas. I am attaching my exam answer and related work. Iapologizing for sending it through way. (Notification Reminder: I already emailed about this serious issue on Wednesday 24 10: 58 to 11:13 pm in your inbox canvas).
Thank you,
Carol

Thank you Robbie, however, Canvas says to use the Available From and Until dates when you will not accept a late assignment. For this reason we use the Available From and Until Dates. If the Until Date is 10/13 11:59pm this means that any assignments submitted after this date/tim will be late.
Canvas has never, before this, interpreted our use of the Until Date as a “lock date”.

Hi Stefanie,
Though I understand what you are saying, we did not lock the module. We simply placed Due Dates, Available From and Until Dates on the assignment; specifically the Until Date of Oct 13 @ 11:59p
I can see that the module that contains this assignment is showing as “locked” as of Oct 13 at 11:59pm, but we did not, knowingly, lock the module. What is the mechanism for locking a module?
Thank you!
Hi, @ggillombardo , I can't speak to how the module came to be locked, but the instructions for setting a lock date are in https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-13096-415241432

@ggillombardo , the message you're seeing leads me to suspect that there is a lock date on the module itself. Have you checked that?
This can be challenging to new Canvas users, and one I spend some time on explaining to my own faculty - Canvas Modules are used to control how course content is displayed to students. So regardless of many of their own settings, Module contents' availability and even visibility is determined by the settings for the module that content is in.
So, as both stefaniesanders and @Robbie_Grant have said; while your assignment might have availability dates set, those dates do not matter if that assignment is located in a module that is unavailable. Below is an example.........
I have a module that is locked until Thursday............
I have an assignment In that module that became available yesterday..........
As a student I will see that the Module and the assignment are grayed-out and unavailable on the Modules page.....................
And, if as a student I try to access the assignment from the Assignments page, I will get this message - the same message your students are getting..............
I hope this helps clarify,
Kelley
