How do I mute grades in the updated gradebook as of Jan. 18th?

@ahuntoon Thank You for posting your question. I'm not sure if you have been following the Canvas Release Notes much, but the "Mute" functionality of the legacy Gradebook has been replaced with "Grade Posting Policies". Some schools have been preparing their teachers and faculty for this change by sending out information and resources, posting announcements on the Canvas Dashboard, and/or making the New Gradebook available earlier than today's global release to all Canvas customers. I'm hopeful that your school has done something similar. Here are some good resources for you to review that should help answer your question:
I know this is a lot of links and information...but maybe start with the video tutorial of the New Gradebook Overview, and then if you want to dive deeper into the functionality, review the top four links I provided. The other links at the bottom are mainly FYI.
I hope this helps, Amy! Let the Community know if you have any questions...thanks!

Dear Chris
Thanks for your email but I looked at the page on unmuting grades and
frankly, it is very confusing. TMI.
All I want to do is hide grades until I am done grading the whole section.
So if I manually select to post grades, my simple question is how do I then
unmute these grades? And will the eye icon with a slash through it
disappear so I know the grades are posted?
Can you just tell me how to do this? In my humble opinion, the other method
was much better and much easier to access. All these options muddy the
waters.
I would be most appreciative.
Thanks
Amy
Hi Amy,
A favorite former geology professor of mine at the University of Wyoming was Peter Huntoon. I don't know if he is related but seeing the name made me think of him. Anyway, with the new system the terms you are looking for are Hide and Post. It's not a direct correlation to Mute and Unmute, but pretty close. I agree that the new posting policies are a bit much in terms of explaining, but see if those simple word substitutions help.
Cheers,
Rick
