Welcome to the Canvas Community!!!

It sounds like the assignment may be linked to an outside publisher resource and therefore needs to load in a new window to display.  I would recommend contacting your instructor just to confirm before you allow the pop-up window to open or before you override the security setting to allow that to happen.
