Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
Is there a right that allows us to give a user access the ability to become someone else in the system but limiting it to only "view only" rather than having full access to make changes. We only want the person masquerading to be able to look but not touch what they see.
We want to provide our department chairs with view access to the courses managed by the faculty they oversee but not to make changes more specifically.
Thanks in advance,
Denise

@musselwhited , here's a past discussion which may be helpful to you:
And here's a feature idea currently open for voting which relates somewhat:
A view-only limitation for Act As User (formerly "Masquerade"/"Become") has been suggested as an idea in the past and could be resubmitted to Canvas Studio. To see the old idea, join Cold Storage and then visit:

I asked a similar question and another Canvas user recommended I vote for this feature:

Go check it out, you might wan to vote on it as well.
We also needed something like this but the ability is not currently possible but our workaround was to create a Crs Viewer Account Role. We then went to each Sub-Account and added that user at the Sub-Account level with that role. Doing this allows the user to search for courses and people for that Sub-Account (school) and it allows them to view only.
Hello, @musselwhited -- I help run AspirEDU, a Tampa-based analytics provider. (We're just down I-4 from Winter Park.) One of our solutions is called Instructor Insight, which provides metrics on the interaction of teachers in their courses. You didn't specify exactly what information you wanted your department chairs to see but can certainly provide that window, even down to a filtered sub-account view. If you'd like to learn more, please visit our page on the new Canvas Partner Portal: AspirEDU - Member | Instructure Partner Directory . Thank you!
