Does anyone know a way that I could unlock a specific module for a student without changing completion settings for previous modules?
This is something I truly miss about Salesforce+Moodle, where it is possible to unlock units manually for a student in salesforce then have that reflect on the Moodle instance.
As canvas governs the progression and doesn't have an unlock feature at a student level, I'm in a pickle when it comes to students enrolling into courses who have CT for some units/modules and not others.
Currently, I have completion rules set for each module that are: Completion of an intro Quiz (1/1), View chapter 1, Submit assignment 1 and Score at least 1 on assignment 2.
When a student came in who had CT for module 3/4, I excused them from the assessments and graded the quiz as 1/1, however, module 5 did not unlock for them.
I expect that this is due to the completion rules for 4 being 'view chapter 1 and submit assignment 1' - since they never viewed the page nor have they actually submit anything, these rules override the grades and module 5 didnt unlock.
Id love to know how everyone else handles CT for part of a course or how others excuse certain modules without altering the completion rules for the rest of the class/course.

Thanks, Kona,
Step 3 is the one that I've found to be the real issue as I had completion rules based on activity in the module, not just the assessment.
For students who are full fee for service, that won't be too much of an issue, I just log in as them then clear the sections that are blocking progress but with gov funded students, due to the extensive access reports we need to provide, looks like I'll have to work 1-1 with them to have the student clear this themselves even though its not require.
The post you've linked above will be really helpful when explaining this to our student services team who will likely be the ones applying CT/unlocking modules so thanks for the excellently presented step by step!
Thanks for providing this feedback and yes, it's not perfect, but I'm glad you will be able to make it work.
Thanks for sharing your workaround. Just wanted to let you know this doesn't work for me. After excusing it in the gradebook the student is able to temporarily move on to the next items in the module. However, when I enter a zero in the gradebook it relocks everything downstream. Everything completed beyond this requirement prior to the zero entry has green checkmarks but is now grayed out again until they complete the previous task that had been excused.
Perhaps it's because you enter a zero with a minimum of 3 required? I don't have a minimum score required for that excused item (because I have to manually grade it and I want them to continue on without waiting to be graded).
I really wish we could just control this at the student level.
