Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
Hello, I would be very grateful for your advice please on the following Canvas problem.
When I attempt to upload a file: ppt, word, pdf to my canvas page, I get the following error message and the file does not upload.
Something went wrong, check your connection and try again.
It appears to be a Canvas error and not with my network connection ?
Kind Regards
Fraser

Problem solved. The memory allocation to the course just needed increasing.
Could you please elaborate on your solution, and how it can be done? Thanks!
You would go to the course SETTINGS page and raise the course storage size.
Or the student can go to their personal profile and offload files from their FILES page in their profile if they are close to the limit of their personal storage. You can see how much storage is being used in the bottom left side of the FILES window in both the course and user files page.
I continue to get this issue and the memory allocation is NOT the problem.
I have found that the students who are getting this error are those who are using Chromebooks.
I have been forced to allow those students alternate methods to upload image and pdf results to Discussions (rather than use the tool bar to insert an image or document into the Rich Text Editor so that other students reading the post don't have to download a file and open it up to view it, which they won't do).

How do you change the memory allocation so you do not get the error message Something went wrong, check your connection and try again.
Thank you,

I just received (months later) a reply that a solution to my problem had been accepted. Must be a robot doing the reply, since the solution given is the memory allocation problem, and I explicitly state in my posting that that is NOT the problem. Why would I state this? I have my students go over the proposed solution with me and they are never close to their memory allocation limit (nor am I). My memory allocation shows less than 1% of the allocated space used, see below. The students report similar percentages.
Please address this problem !!!!
I'm having the same issue, but it is not memory related as the file is only 11 kb and my memory is 5500 mb. Any suggestions?
Can i Know-how is it solved?

it wont let me change or raise the capacity. its fixed at 250mgbyte. how do i raise it? under teacher page, settings
You would need to contact your Canvas administrator and ask them to increase it for you.
Same issue with several teachers here. None of them are even close to the course storage allocation.
Same issue here -- and no, it's not storage allocation or memory either. Would appreciate an actual response from Canvas folks, as this is NOT resolved for a number of us. Thanks.
@TerryBradley ...
What type of file are you uploading, and what is the file size of said file? Also, where are you trying to upload the file? Are you trying to upload the file to your course "Files"? How do I upload a file to a course? - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com) If so, how much free space does it say that you have still available (it should indicate this at the bottom of your "Files" screen)? Or, are you trying to upload the file to your personal/account "Files" area (which is different from your course "Files" area)? How do I view my user files as an instructor? - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com) If you are trying to upload your file there, how much available free space does it say you have?
Hope to hear back from you soon...thanks!
In case anyone is still having this issue I just found a solution that worked for me & I hope you as well:
1. Do not click insert/upload file like you normally do (you will continue to have the same problem)
2. Instead click on the 3 dots to the right of the T2
3. If you are inserting a document now click the document symbol (or from Google Drive the drive symbol)
Then save as usual...I hope this helps some other teachers
