Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
I want to enter a quiz in canvas, but it's not giving me a space to put in the point value of the quiz. Where is that?

Hi @lduncan1 and welcome to the Canvas Community. When creating a quiz, the overall point value is not entered in the quiz settings. Each question has its own value and Canvas will automatically work out the total value of the quiz by adding up the points of the individual questions. After you have entered the basic settings of your quiz (time limit, number of attempts allowed etc) you start adding questions and for each question you specify a point value.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. So can a teacher create a quiz in canvas, but then
have the student just take a paper quiz and then enter the score for the
quiz in canvas?

If the students are taking the quiz on paper and not submitting anything through Canvas, it might be better to create it as an assignment rather than a quiz. You can set the submission type as "No submission" in the assignment settings. This means a column will be created in the gradebook and you can enter a grade there or in the Speedgrader, but students won't be prompted to submit anything to Canvas. This will be less confusing for the students as Canvas won't be reminding them that a quiz is due when they've already done it on paper. It also has the advantage that when entering the grades you can enter a single score for each student rather than having to input a mark for each individual question.
