[ARCHIVED] Posting grades manually

I'm having trouble understanding the manual posting option in gradebook. I've selected manual posting and I can see the grades pop up in the gradebook while I grade. But I don't see any indication that the grades are unavailable to the students. I thought the idea was that the grades only become visible for an assignment when I manually post them. That manual positing is supposed to be somewhere in the drop down menu activitated by clicking on the "three dots" at the top the assignment column. But I don't see any such option in the drop down menu. What am I missing?

Hover your cursor over the title of the assignment. Click the three dots. Then click Grade Posting Policy. If you select Manually, this setting will apply to any ungraded assignment. If you would like to hide previously graded submissions from students on this assignment, click Hide Grades under the three dots.
