When I click on the People link, the people button is not in blue so I cannot add a student to the course. What can I do?

Hi,  @mmassengale1 ‌, the most likely reason for this is that the local Canvas admin or eLearning department for your school have disabled teachers' ability to add users to their courses through the People tab because they are managing course enrollments on teachers' behalf. Please contact them directly to request an enrollment changes in your course.
