Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
So in MBC we could put a student in "time out" from messaging. Is this option available in Canvas. I know it's a teachable moment and all, but teachers are asking.
I don't believe the chat tool has that type of functionality. I believe all you can do is turn it on or off course wide.
It would be a good feature to be added though - you should submit a feature request. https://community.canvaslms.com/community/ideas/create-idea!input.jspa?containerID=2035&containerTyp...
There have been some suggestions in the past. This one for example is archived:
The information Brandon provided about turning off the course level chat tool is spot on.
If you are referring to the inbox messages in Canvas, what you could do is go into your account permissions and create an new role that is based of the student role. You could call it "time-out". Then what you would do is override the settings so you disable "Send messages to individual course members"
After this, you would need to remove the targeted student's enrollments and then re enroll them as a "time-out" role in the courses they take.
Nifty solution, @clong ! A course role called "time-out" would send a message (no pun intended, ouch).
