Instructor would like to create groups in his class based on quiz scores. Is there a way to use the API to do this?

What an intriguing question and implied use case,  @lekern ​! I've shared it with the Canvas Admins​ and Canvas Developers​ groups to attract the attention of those who are most likely to know if this can be accomplished using the API. If you're not already a member of those groups, it only takes a few clicks to join.

Our institution uses the Groups API​ to establish groups. Thus, based on my experience, what you describe should be possible for a developer to build. Note that so far, we haven't done this in a way involving grades.

Here's an alternate suggestion: follow the page for the Mastery Paths​ project in Canvas Studio. Once released, that forthcoming Canvas capability might help your instructor differentiate course content and activities based on grades, without having to build any groups!
