[ARCHIVED] Importing Moodle courses into Canvas

Just wondering if anyone has any work around for importing Moodle 3.x files into Canvas?  We are having issues with files coming across properly on the import.  In addition I'm wondering if anyone has heard of any potential updates to the moodle importer into Canvas?  We deal with a lot of content from our service providers being produced in Moodle so we run into this issue more often than not.

 @jkurjata ‌.  Curious was type of files are not coming over correctly?  We just switched (well technically are in the process of switching) from Moodle to Canvas at my current institution.  We go into the Moodle course, do a "backup" which creates the .mbz file and then we select the Moodle import in the Canvas course to bring it.  Pretty much everything that has a corresponding Canvas feature has come over fine.  There have been some little issues, like all quizzes are getting set to "surveys" and you can't turn on in-line preview for files that were already embedded in pages from Moodle.  Discussions were the only thing that really did not come over clean.  Everything else was pretty smooth.

Hi Nick.  Josh and I can get the backup (.mbz) imported into Canvas.  The problem is when we try and open a page, it won't open and an error code pops up that says "couldn't find valid settings for this link".  We think it's an external app/LTI set up issue but aren't sure how to fix it yet.  Any thoughts?

 @kshoemaker1 ‌, if you are willing to share the .mbz file with me I am happy to bring it into our setup and see if I get the same errors.  We found most of the "pages" in Canvas were folders of files in Moodle.  The page was the folder name and then linked on the page were all of the files that were contained in the folder.  The Moodle sections came over as modules which makes sense.  I could see where an LTI might also come over as a page or attempt to be translated that way in the migration which would mean you are on the right track with your theory.  My email is nwilson@butler.edu if you would like me to try the .mbz for you.  I find it is easier to send files via email versus in this plus that way you are not sharing the file to whole community
